In 2015, I set a goal on GoodReads of reading 30 books, which I thought was a pretty reasonable goal. I ended up finishing 17, and I think a big part of that is that I let other forms of entertainment steal the little bits of quiet time that I had. So this year, my goal is 25 books. That's two books per month, plus one extra somewhere in there. I think it's doable, as long as I consistently make an effort to read. Before you think I'm forcing this upon myself, let me tell you that reading … [Read more...]
Books I’ve Read: October 2015
The Masque of the Black Tulip by Lauren Willig. I requested this from the library, and was actually able to finish it (barely) before I had to return it. I liked the first book in this series better, but this one was an easy read as well, diving into a few of the characters who were just side players in the first book, and pretty much ignoring the main characters from the first book, except for one chapter. While there were a few misleading hints to try to throw the reader off, it was … [Read more...]
I Want To Be A Money Making Mom, But I’m Scared
As I have mentioned a few times, I was chosen to be on the launch team for The Money-Making Mom by Crystal Paine, so I received a copy of the ebook a few weeks early. I dove right in, expecting to be inspired and hoping to find some concrete and specific advice for what I can do to make money from home. We are trying to get out of debt, after all. Crystal walks you through the steps of figuring out what to do and how to do it. By focusing on your own unique skills, talents, … [Read more...]
Books I’ve Read: September 2015
I started out the month on a roll from last month, reading a book fairly quickly and then starting more. And then for some reason, I didn't pick up another book right away after this one, and I fell into a non-reading rut. Hopefully I can change that next month! What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty. This was my introduction to Moriarty's books, and, as with Rainbow Rowell last month, this wasn't my first choice, but it was what the library had available, so I went with it. This was a … [Read more...]
Books I’ve Read: August 2015
Two books from the library, plus one on the bottom of the stack that's been on my bookshelf for several moves since I found it on the bargain shelf at a Barnes & Noble once upon a time. I started it, got about 15 pages in, and then both my library requests came through, so I read those first. The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. I posted about my ventures into the KonMari method of organizing, but here are a few more of my favorite quotations from The Life-Changing Magic … [Read more...]
