Jonah and Matthew really enjoyed the pattern block graphing activity sheet from this post for school this week (they did it twice!). I’ve been in the process of catching Matthew up on a few things that he may have missed, but for the most part, he’s ready to join Jonah in Saxon Math 1. That means that the only subject they won’t have together is reading, which is a lot less work for me. I don’t know that they’ll always be at the same level in things, but I’ll take advantage while they are.
We had our first picnic of the year a couple days ago. Jesse grilled steaks and hot dogs, and I pulled together a few quick sides. The kids love when we eat outside!
Thursday night, I was finishing cleaning up dinner and dishes, and came out to the living room to find the big kids reading on the couch, and the room all picked up. That’s pretty much perfection right there.
We went grocery shopping on Friday, which means this was my scene for Saturday afternoon. Chicken in the crockpot, my phone playing podcasts, and me chopping up meats and veggies for the freezer. I just have a few more mushrooms and peppers to chop today and we’ll be set for the rest of the month!
Interesting Reads From This Week:
Real Food At Walmart? What To Buy from 100 Days of Real Food. I’ve noticed our Walmart has more and more organic options, as well as gluten-free stuff and different ingredients (like coconut oil and quinoa, to name a few), which they didn’t used to have.
3 Tips To Reduce The Cost Of Eating Out from Don’t Waste The Crumbs. This has always been a struggle for us, but for some reason seeing it laid out like this (especially tip #2!) makes more sense than other things I’ve read in the past.
Why Do Real Food Bloggers Have Sick Kids? from Kitchen Stewardship. This is how I feel when I write about gluten-free eating, and why I’m working on my muffin cookbook. We’ve been there.
Deals and Goodies:
You all know I love coffee. Starbucks just changed their whole rewards program so that it’s based on the dollars you spend instead of the number of visits. I think that’s a good thing, especially since the times we do go, we usually get drinks for everyone. If you’re not a member of Starbucks Rewards, you can register any gift card, and you’ll become an instant Gold member with any purchase before May 2, 2016. If you’re already a Starbucks Rewards member, a purchase before May 2 gets your Gold status renewed for another year.
You get a free drink for your birthday, free refills on brewed coffees and teas, and a free food item or drink when you get 125 stars. You also get a snazzy card with your name on it. If you’re buying coffee anyways, or even if you just want a free drink for your birthday, sign up!
Disclosure: The Starbucks link in this post is a referral link. If you sign up through this link, I get 60 bonus stars! Thanks for helping me get closer to my next free drink!
