Earlier this week, I explained why I switched from Blogger to WordPress. But how did I do it?

I signed up for a WordPress.org site through Blogelina. I picked my website name, but the Blogelina team did all of the work of setting it up. This took just under two days, and was so nice to not have to figure everything out myself! I would have had to Google each step along the way, and while I could have done that, it would have taken me a lot longer.
I transferred my blog posts over. I had pretty much all of my previous posts categorized on Blogger, so I went through each category and copy/pasted the posts over. Then I reformatted the pictures so that they no longer linked back to Blogger, and updated any links within the posts.
I didn’t transfer over everything. I’ve been blogging over there for five years, and not everything was relevant to this site. Some of it was family news, some of it was link-ups and things I no longer do, and some of it was just out of date. I transferred over the posts that I wanted to keep, and made a list of the posts that I’d like to have over here, but that need to be updated.
I adjusted my WordPress menus and the look of the site. Once I had the posts transferred over and categorized, I made the menu at the top of the page pretty and functional. Now if you’re looking for recipes, a quick scroll over to Food/Recipes will get you there!
I created the blog email account, Facebook page, and updated my Instagram name. On the sidebar, you’ll see all of my social media buttons. I made sure I had updated information for those, and was ready to launch!
All of this took me about a week, working a few hours every day. While I totally recommend having Blogelina set up your initial blog (and getting the free year of hosting), I feel like putting all of my blog posts here myself really helped me figure out the new to me blogging system. Having someone else transfer it for me would have been like jumping in the deep end when I went to write my next post.
Overall, I am really happy with the whole process of setting up my new online home, and I hope you enjoy your time here too!
