Along with keeping myself organized, we do have to have a place for all of the school stuff that accumulates. Here are the two places we house most of it.
Our School Room Shelves.
Each of the boys has a shelf that is theirs. This is for their “treasures”, projects they want to keep, and things like their Lego magazines, word search books, and other stuff that they think is fun. They like it because they get to keep all these things. I like it because it’s contained to one place. If you want to keep that piece of yarn or that rock from outside, make sure it fits on your shelf.
The almost empty shelf is for our school books for the week. These have typically been books to go with our Letter of the Week, as well as books that go along with our history and science lessons. We read these during read aloud time in the morning.
We also have a couple miscellaneous shelves that I keep my supplies and our manipulatives on. I went through these and reorganized them recently. These are all extra shelves that we’ve had around the house, and we moved them into our school room so that we would have extra storage space. We have room to grow into the shelf all the way to the right, but currently Elizabeth likes to pull everything off of it, so I don’t actually store much on there.
Our Craft Cupboard.
I have a love/hate relationship with this cupboard in our living room. I love that we have the space to put all of our craft supplies, and I love that it has doors so that Elizabeth can’t get in there very easily, but I haven’t found a good system yet for keeping it organized. I clean it out every so often, but things don’t get put back where they’re supposed to go and it gets messy again. Still, it’s nice to have a dedicated place to store craft supplies.
Staying organized is a big piece of the homeschool puzzle for me. It helps me be able to use all of the resources I’ve gathered, include all of the fun things I want to include, and keep my kids learning what they need to while still having fun. But being organized can only happen if you have a plan TO organize. For more on how I used Pinterest to plan and teach my children preschool, check out Pinterest Preschool.
