What I'm about to say might be a bit controversial. Maybe that's why I'm posting it the day after Mother's Day and not on Mother's Day itself. It's okay to want a day off. It's also okay to think that's crazy. All last week, I saw various posts being shared about "the perfect gift for Mother's Day". There were a few different options, but one that I kept seeing is that "Mom just wants a day off" or "time to herself". The comments are divided here, but they're pretty much both extremes … [Read more...]
How I Got My Big Kids To Actually Be Quiet During Rest Time
It was a sad day when I realized that, more often than not, Jonah and Matthew don't sleep during nap time any more. And so we changed the name to "rest time". In my head for some reason I thought that simple shift would be enough to make them want to lie down quietly in their beds for a specified period of time while the younger kids napped and I got a break. On Things I Miss
I want to write. I used to write all the time (being an English minor-almost-major in college will do that). I miss writing. Being back in my college town, back at my alma mater for convention this week, has me looking back and pondering all the things I miss. I expected to be able to somewhat enjoy my coffee (which I brewed fresh at 8:00 a.m.) throughout the morning as I usually do. I finished it just before we left for the park at 2:30 p.m. When we got to the park, I expected the kids to run around while sat quietly at a table with Hannah and played on … [Read more...]
Yell! Yell! Yell!
photo credit "I do not like this one so well. All he does is yell yell yell!" --Dr. Suess, One Fish, Two Fish Yelling. This is something I have been struggling with lately in parenting. Some days we get to bedtime, and I feel like I've spent my entire day yelling at Jonah and Matthew. I hate that. There are moments when yelling is appropriate. Like when the boys wake up from their naps, and I'm in the middle of feeding Hannah in the other room, I'll yell "Sure! Get out of bed!" or when … [Read more...]
