I received this product for free from Moms Meet, May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are my own.
I have a small love affair with the chocolate and peanut butter combination. It’s pretty much my favorite. But for families with peanut allergies, that combination can be deadly. That’s why I’m thankful there are other nut butters out there, so that everyone can enjoy this delicious combo.
Once Again Nut Butter makes nut and seed butters and honey that are all gluten free certified, non GMO verified, certified organic, vegan, and kosher. Both the almond and peanut butter are made with only one ingredient: the nuts! Peanut butter is one of those foods that I’m really bad about buying without added sugar, but it totally doesn’t need it. And these Once Again products prove that – they’re naturally sweet without all the added extras.
Of course, to really test out these nut butters, we had to try a few of our favorite recipes. First we put the almond butter to the test in our Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Muffin recipe (posted over on 4 Hats and Frugal). Those were delicious, as always, and the kids ate them all before I could take any pictures! I call that a win.
Since we make Energy Bites pretty much every week, we tried the cashew butter in those. I have to say, the extra creaminess really added to the sweetness factor. Definitely a keeper!
I also tried the cashew butter in my Ice Cream Shell Topping recipe (free in the subscribers library – sign up here), and it tasted great, although the texture was actually a little bit grainy compared to my normal peanut butter. That kind of surprised me. But it wasn’t gritty and weird. It just wasn’t as creamy as I expected. Also, it’s ice cream shell topping, so it’s pretty much guaranteed to be delicious.
And finally, we had a mixture of peanut butter and cashew butter in Peanut Butter Balls. I left out the peanuts, and they were still super sweet and creamy and bite-sized perfection. We took those to share at our church’s Lenten supper so that I wouldn’t eat them all.
None of us were as big of fans of the sunflower butter, which I think is because it’s a stronger flavor and not as naturally sweet as some of the other nut butters. It still makes a good “PB” and J, and we’ve been dipping apples in it, but it wouldn’t be my first choice for an alternative. But I bet if you mix it into a delicious treat like we did with some of the others, it would still be really good!
The good news is that Once Again nut butters taste amazing. I could eat the almond butter with a spoon. I actually did eat the almond butter with a spoon. And I made sure to scrape out the nearly empty jars with a spatula because I didn’t want to waste any. Each flavor we tried made yummy treats.
The not quite as good news is that these are definitely a step up in price from your typical peanut butter. Since we don’t have nut allergies, I’m used to buying and using quite a bit of regular peanut butter, and I stock up when it goes on sale for $1 a jar. I would guess that if you’re looking for a nut butter substitute, you probably don’t go through the 5 or so jars a month that we do. Once Again products started at a little over $7 at my local grocery store. That may vary a bit depending on where you live.
You can order cases of 6 or 12 jars online directly from Once Again, or check the store locator to see if a retailer near you carries them. Once Again currently has a $1/1 product coupon available here, and you can also grab a $1.50/1 Once Again product coupon from Moms Meet here to save on your first jar.
Once Again Nut Butters might be a bit expensive for every day. But for a special treat every so often? Totally worth it. For a large jar of organic, well-sourced goodness? Definitely worth the cost. For a naturally sweet treat without added sugars? For sure. And for something so delectable you could eat it straight from the jar with a spoon? Probably good to only buy it every once in awhile.
Now excuse me while I go scrape the last bit of goodness out of the cashew butter jar…
