My last official day of work was March 25, 2011, just 3 days before my second child was born. By then my back and my feet were killing me, and I was mostly just looking forward to being able to sit down for more than a few minutes of the day. I didn't really know what staying home with my kids would look like, or how much I would love it. And while I'll be the first to admit that the transition from working to being at home was a little bumpy, now I'm thriving in my role as a stay-at-home … [Read more...]
Books and Things: February 2018
I've decided to start including other entertainment in my monthly book posts, because the reality is that I spend my free time on more than just books. And also because posting about just one book seems silly to me sometimes. So here's how I entertained myself in February... First, a book: Still Me by Jojo Moyes. I happened to hit the library lottery and requested this new release right after it got into the system, so I was the first one to check it out. And then I lost track of time … [Read more...]
Books I’ve Read: January 2018
I started January ambitious for reading, and even set my Goodreads goal for 40 books, slightly higher than the amount I read last year. And then I didn't really make much progress. I only read two books, and one of those I sped through on the very last day of the month. But still, they were good, easy reads, and I enjoyed them both, so that's a fine start to my reading year. After You by Jojo Moyes. Even though I didn't love how Me Before You ended, I still wanted to read what happened … [Read more...]
Books I’ve Read: December 2017 (Plus 2017 Totals)
We made it to the end of another reading year! And for the first time in several years, I actually met my reading goal. My goal was to read 30 books - 2 per month plus a few extras. And I ended up reading 37. Not too shabby! I'm pretty sure rereading Harry Potter (plus all of the shorter companion books) helped quite a bit. The month of December was pretty chaotic, and I only ended up having time for one book. But it was a pretty good one. Artemis by Andy Weir. I won a pre-release … [Read more...]
Hey Baby! A National Geographic Book Review (And Giveaway!)
Disclosure: I received this product for free from Moms Meet to use and post my honest opinions. Compensation for this post was provided and this page may contain affiliate links. I don't know about you, but my kids love animals. They each have their personal favorites - Jonah loves sharks, for instance - but in general, they're always excited to sit down and learn more about creatures from all over the world. So when we got a copy of National Geographic's new book Hey Baby! in the mail, … [Read more...]
